Bayraktar Drones of Turkey in Russia-Ukraine War
There has been much news and propaganda concerning the use of Bayraktar drones of Turkey in the Russia-Ukraine war and on whether new Bayraktar TB-2 drones have been shipped to Ukraine recently. The same drones are one of the major weapons of war crimes in North and East Syria, Iraqi Kurdistan and in many other places.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced in his Facebook post that a shipment of new Bayraktar TB-2 combat drones has already been put into service.
It has been reported that numerous Turkish Air Force Airbus A400M flights between Ankara (ANK) and Rzesow (RZE) in Southern Poland were conducted between February 25 and 27, 2022. It is possible that this is how the drones were delivered to Europe, before being shipped over the Ukrainian border.
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey had announced on a live broadcast in a TV channel that Turkey was adopting an attitude based on principles and that Turkey did not have to take sides.
Russia had announced shortly after launching the invasion on 24th of February 2022 that Ukrainian air assets had been destroyed with “high precision weaponry” and claimed to have shot down several Bayraktar drones.
Since then, the Ukrainian military has released multiple videos claiming the footage shows Bayraktar drones destroying Russian military targets.
Turkish drones are one of the main weapons for war crimes in many places of the world such as North and East Syria, Iraqi Kurdistan, and within Turkey, when used against powers that do not own air defense systems or planes. There are international reports showing that war crimes have also been committed using these drones in Ethiopia and Libya.
