Baghdad chamber of commerce calls for boycott of Turkish goods
Following the artillery attack that killed nine civilians in the KRI, a call has been made by the head of the chamber of commerce in the Iraqi capital Baghdad for a boycott of Turkish imports to Iraq.
The head of the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce on Friday called for a boycott of Turkish goods after the artillery attack that killed nine Arab tourists and injured 23 in Duhok province, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), on 20 July.
Stressing that the trade volume between the two countries amounts to 20 billion dollars and that a boycott will send a strong message that Iraq has the capabilities to respond to ongoing violations by Turkey, Firas Al-Hamdani told Iraqi News Agency (INA) that ‘the Chamber calls on the Iraqi private sector to stop working with Turkish companies.’
He also called on the head of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce to issue directives to all branches to join in the boycott.
The bilateral volume of trade between Iraq and Turkey reached $19.5 billion in 2021, making Iraq the fifth largest export market for Turkey with Turkish exports to Iraq amounting to over $11.1 billion.
