Demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Egyptian journalist-writer Îlhamî El-Melîcî, political science expert Farnaz Etiye and Dr. Muxtar Xebaşî emphasised that Öcalan became a symbol of the struggle for human rights.

Egyptian journalist-writer and political researcher Îlhamî El-Melîcî stated that the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan should end, defining him as “an important leader for the peoples and a unique person”. Îlhamî El-Melîcî said, “Mr Abdullah Öcalan is a fighter and a loyal revolutionary. He is also a leader who will ensure the democratic solution of many problems. Öcalan’s physical freedom will enable the Kurdish people and the peoples of the Middle East in general to live together and equally. It will also be a permanent solution for the Kurdish question,” he said.

Referring to Kurdish People’s Leader Öcalan’s struggle for women’s freedom, political science expert Farnaz Etiye said: “Happy World Human Rights Week on 10-17 December. But we should also remember Mr Öcalan on the World Human Rights Day. Mr Öcalan’s democratic nation project is the greatest project developed for the common life of peoples. Therefore, everyone should demand the physical freedom of Mr Öcalan. The international community, all institutions and organisations should also support this just demand. Mr Öcalan is a leader who fights for women’s rights and for peoples to live together, equally and freely. Abdullah Öcalan has become a symbol of the struggle for human rights. It is unacceptable that he is kept in isolation and denied access to his family and lawyers.”

Emphasising that Öcalan is the person who will ensure a democratic solution to the Kurdish question, Dr. Muxtar Xebaşî said: “We want freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, who has become the symbol of the solution of the Kurdish question. Mr Öcalan was arrested through an international conspiracy. In 1999 he was sentenced to death. For 24 years, Mr Öcalan has rarely had contact with his family, lawyer and defence team. Today he is still under severe isolation. Of course, we aim for the release of Mr Abdullah Öcalan from prison and his physical freedom.”
