Four individuals who attended the 4th Ordinary Congress of the Green Left Party in Ankara have been detained by Turkish police. The Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation regarding the display of a poster featuring Abdullah Öcalan at the congress.
Turkish police have detained four people who attended the 4th Ordinary Congress of the Green Left Party in the Turkish capital Ankara after the event on Sunday, the Mezopotamya agency reported.
The Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office has also announced the opening of an investigation into the display of a poster of the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Abdullah Ocalan, at the party’s congress.
One of the demands made by participants at the congress of the pro-Kurdish opposition party, which will continue to operate under the name of the People’s Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP), was an end to Öcalan’s 31-month incommunicado detention.
The main agenda of the congress was a democratic solution to the Kurdish question and peace in the Kurdish conflict in Turkey. The participants unfurled a poster of Ocalan in protest against the isolation of the PKK leader, pointing out that the way to achieve this goal is to end the isolation of the PKK leader.
