Pro-gov’t journalist says Turkish military will enter Syria once Iraq operation is complete
The Claw-Lock operation in Zap and Avashin regions in Iraq should be completed before Turkey launches a new operation in Syria, pro-Turkish government columnist Abdulkadir Selvi wrote in an article for daily Hürriyet.
The Claw-Lock operation in Zap and Avashin in Iraq should be completed before Turkey launches a new operation in Syria, columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, who is known for his closeness to the Justice and Development Party (AKP), wrote on daily Hürriyet on 13 June.
The Tell Rifat and Manbij operations will probably start simultaneously, Selvi said. “But first of all, we need to wait for the Claw-Lock operation to be completed.”
Selvi continued, “The planned military build-up for the Tell Rifat and Manbij operation has not been fully realised. From next week, military shipments are expected to increase.”
The Turkish Armed Forces will not start the operation until its preparations are complete, he said. “Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the Eid-al-Adha (8-12 July). After Eid-al-Adha, we can say that the hours are numbered, not days, for the operation.”
The wider international conjuncture is set in favour of these operations Selvi said. “The conjuncture is with us more than ever.” He claimed that, “Our active neutral position in the Russia-Ukraine War has placed us in a special place in the eyes of Russia.”
Selvi explained, “Due to the operation to be carried out in Syria by Turkey, Russia does not want to close the door that Turkey opens to the West.”
Western countries will not object to Turkey’s operations either, as the planned Syria operation coincides with talks of Sweden and Finland joining NATO, he added.
