Turkey planning transfer of Syrian mercenaries to Afghanistan

The transfer will be made via Turkish security companies with official contracts in order to preserve a good image in front of the international community, SOHR reports.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), there has been a deal reached between the Turkish National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) and leaders of the various Syrian factions either in Afrin or in other areas under the control of Turkish forces in Syria to transfer them to Kabul in Afghanistan, likewise, a similar transferring process that reportedly happened to Libya and Nagorno as well, ANHA reported.

The transfer of the mercenaries will however, be different from the previous transfers, SOHR reports. This time, Turkish intelligence will recruit those mercenaries via Turkish security companies with official contracts so the transfer will happen officially, so as to try and preserve a good image in front of the international community, according to SOHR.

Basing its information on local sources, SOHR stated that the Turkish state has registered the mercenaries with security companies in order to make their deployment comply with international law and legitimize their presence in Kabul.

SOHR also noted that Turkey’s transfer of mercenaries to Kabul is still under discussion but could be put into practice as early as the beginning of September.

According to SOHR, around 2,000 mercenaries will be transferred to Kabul and, that those mercenaries will not take part in any direct military operations against the Taliban but rather work in different areas such as protecting specific strategic points in Kabul.

SOHR stated that the mercenaries will be paid a monthly fee of between 2,000 and 3,000 dollars and that Turkish intelligence will take part in the operation to transfer them with the main tasks of the mercenaries including protecting the airport, government centres and international forces in Kabul.
