Finnish Leftist Youth Movement (Vasemmistonuorte) announced that it has joined the campaign and sent a letter signed by its head Henrik Jaakola to the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
The letter called on the United Nations (UN) to take action urgently for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan citing the reports of the UN Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CAT) and the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) in İmralı in August 2020.
Refering to UN's activities against the Apartheid regime in South Africa, the letter stated that the rules similar to Nelson Mandela Rules should also be applied to the Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s case .
Struggling for the values of socialism, democracy, feminism, red-green environmentalism and internationalism, Vasemmistonuorte operates in 9 regions of Finland.
Many organizations have participated in the campaign and sent letters to the UN Secretary General.
