Duran Kalkan: ‘Mafia gang structures in Turkey were established to fight against the Kurds’

Duran Kalkans says the statements of the Turkish mafia boss Sedat Peker are not 'a new thing' to them and claimed that all the mafia groups in Turkey were established under the supervision of NATO.

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) Executive Committee member Duran Kalkan was interviewed in a special programme that was broadcast on Medya Haber TV and talked about the heated debate within Turkey regarding the convicted mafia leader Sedat Peker’s confessions about the mafia and state relations in Turkey.

“It is not a new thing, these issues were already known. With Sedat Peker’s confessions it has become clear again but these issues were already known by us,” he said.

Kalkan noted that Turkey was always blaming the PKK for crimes that the state committed together with the mafia.

“The drug trade and similar things, in order to attack the PKK, MIT and turkish counter gerilla all lied but now it is clear who committed these crimes. They came up with various lies for the murder of journalist Uğur Mumcu, they blamed the PKK, now it becomes clear who committed that murder,” he said.

Kalkan claimed that all the mafia gang groups were established under the supervision of NATO in Turkey, and stated that those gangs are closely affiliated with the Special Warfare Department or Special Forces Command.

Kalkan also said that the reason why these gangs are established was to repress the Kurds.

“This mafia gang structure is established for the purpose of fighting the Kurds. So the opposition should unite as the allies of Kurds. To fight this gang structure revolutionary and democratic alliances should be built inside Turkey,” he said.
