HDP discusses Turkey’s aggression in UK Parliament
"The Erdoğan regime is carrying out serious attacks on democracy and freedoms. Human rights and the rule of law are trampled on both in the Middle East and in Europe through attacks and oppression against the Kurdish people," UK Labour Party MP Feryal Clark said.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Feleknas Uca and Dr Sezai Temelli attended a meeting held in the British Parliament jointly organised by the London-based Centre for Kurdish Progress and the Kurdish People’s Assembly.
The HDP delegation said the Kurdish people “are the side want peace”, while discussing Turkey’s attacks against Kurds in Iraq and Syria.
Deputies discussed the attacks on Medya Defence Zones in Iraqi Kurdistan and the increasing crackdown on the Kurdish people and opposition groups in Turkey, as well as relations between Europe and Turkey.
“The Erdoğan regime is carrying out serious attacks on democracy and freedoms. Human rights and the rule of law are trampled on both in the Middle East and in Europe through attacks and oppression against the Kurdish people,” UK Labour Party MP Feryal Clark said.
“The SNP and the HDP are sister parties, and their relations are very strong. We work together. Our party, SNP, asks the Turkish government to immediately stop the invasion attacks in the Kurdistan region. We reject the Turkish attacks,” Scottish National Party MP Chris Stephens said in his speech.
UK government should listen to HDP MPs carefully, it is very important to maintain peace and protect the freedom and identity of the Kurdish people in the Middle East, Stephens added.
HDP deputies Uca and Temelli spoke about the violations of rights in the country and emphasised the Turkish government’s hostility to democracy.
“Everywhere we go, today in the British parliament, we strive to come together for peace against war,” Temelli said.
“Turkey and the Southern Kurdistan Government are in alliance for their own interests. This alliance is against the unity of the Kurdish people,” Uca said.
