Nine Syrian soldiers killed near jihadist-held area close to Turkish border
While there was no claim of responsibility for the deadly rocket attack in the west of Aleppo province, a news report stated that it was conducted by 'an opposition faction loyal to Turkey,'
A rocket attack in northwest Syria killed 10 Syrian soldiers and injured nine on Friday according to a report by state news agency SANA.
A bus was targeted with an anti-tank missile in the west of Aleppo province, near the frontier with the territory held by various jihadist groups, close to the Turkish border.
While there was no claim of responsibility for the attack, Ahrar al-Sham, former ally of the Islamic State (ISIS), posted a video on Telegram showing a rocket hitting a bus, with a caption declaring that the footage showed the moment a military bus belonging to pro-Assad militias was destroyed west of Aleppo, reported Al Jazeera. The content of the video could not be independently verified.
According to another news report, the attack was carried out by ‘an opposition faction loyal to Turkey.’
While the attack marked the deadliest one targeting pro-Assad forces since the truce agreement brokered by Russia and Turkey in March 2020, it went largely unreported in Turkish government media.
Hawar News reported later on Friday that vehicles carrying the bodies of killed Syrian soldiers were targeted in another attack, allegedly by Turkish forces, and a child was killed in the incident.
The deadly missile attack in Aleppo coincided with a missile attack by Israel on the same day. The Israeli missiles targeted central Syria, killing five people, including a civilian, and ignited fires in farmlands in the area, Syrian state media reported.
