In a press statement on Monday, Afrin (Efrîn) NGOs listed the crimes committed against women by the Turkish army and its affiliated militias in Afrin, currently under the control of the Turkish state, ANHA reports.

Dozens of women attended the press conference in Shahba (Şehba), which drew attention to the situation of women in the regions where the war continues.

The NGOs stated that these incidents in Afrin amount to war crimes, and remarked that Turkey was trying to take revenge on the women leading the struggle.

The statement noted that the women were targeted for having resisted and eliminated ‘gangs’ like Da’esh in Afrin, Ras al-Ayn (Serêkaniyê) and Tell Abiad (Girê Spî), and documented the crimes of the Turkish army and its ‘gangs’ against women in a data sheet they had drawn up.

According to the data sheet, 84 women have been killed in Afrin since 18 March 2018. Of these, six women committed suicide, unable to cope with what they were going through.

It documented the rape of 71 women. It said that over a thousand women were abducted by the ‘gangs’ attached to the Turkish state, and the fate of most of them is still unknown.

The women condemned all such crimes and called on the UN and affiliated institutions to take action against crimes against women in Afrin.
