US envoy visits Syrian Kurdish officials

US State Department representative Nicholas Grainger visited the Kurdish-controlled Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) amid the rapprochement negotiations between Ankara and Damascus.

US State Department Envoy Nicholas Grainger on Wednesday visited the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) to discuss the recent political situation in Syria and the trilateral negotiations between Ankara, Damascus and Moscow.

During the visit, AANES Foreign Affairs Co-chair Bedran Çiya Kurd noted the need for a broad political solution with the consensus of all Syrians and the exclusion of foreign interventions.

Kurd said that no local party should use the conflict for its own benefit, and they should promote a general solution based on international resolutions.

The US delegation, on the other hand, stated that their stance on a political solution is clear, based on the consensus of all Syrians and the UN’s decision, but that there are many obstacles to normalisation.

The parties also discussed the re-emergence of the Islamic State (ISIS) and its coincidence with the military operations of Turkey against North and East Syria.

Kurd underlined Turkey’s insistence of seeing AANES as a threat to its national security is a slander far from the truth emphasising Kurdish forces in northeast Syria have never carried out any military action inside Turkey.

The meeting took place between Nicholas Grainger, AANES Foreign Affairs Co-chair Bedran Çiya Kurd, and other officials Fener El Giêt, Robîl Biho.
