Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar’s continuing vigil for justice demanding a “fair trial” for the perpetrators who killed their family members continues into its 53rd day.

Emine Şenyaşar lost her husband and two sons as a result of an armed attack by the bodyguards and relatives of the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP’s) Urfa deputy, İbrahim Halil Yıldız.

She and her son Ferit Şenyaşar have been staging a sit-in vigil protest in front of the Urfa Courthouse since March 9 continuously demanding justice.

Due to the new COVID-19 lockdowns introduced in Turkey, the Şenyaşar family will be continuing their protest at home.

“Physical limitations can not stop our justice struggle. We will not give up on raising our demands for justice,” said the Şenyaşar family on a Twitter post they shared on the 53rd day of their protest.

“What we live today will be the subject of a tragic novel one day,” said the Şenyaşar family on Wednesday on a Twitter post they shared.

“Three of our family members were killed in a hospital, there is footage and the perpetrators are recorded, but there is no prosecutor in this country to open an investigation on what happened at the hospital, just because of the fact that this incident involves a member of the ruling AKP,” said Ferit Şenyaşar.

A delegation consisting of representatives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Mardin (Mêrdin) Bureau, Peace Mothers, Mersin Bar, Human Rights Association (IHD) and Association of Lawyers for Freedom (OHD) visited the justice vigil on the 51st day.

In a joint press statement, the delegation expressed that 40 million Kurds support the struggle of the Şenyaşar family.
