Six activists of the Defend Kurdistan peace initiative are detained in Germany

An international peace delegation returned to Frankfurt today from Iraqi Kurdistan where they have been visiting to initiate dialogue to stop Turkey's ongoing military operations in the region and to prevent an intra-Kurdish fractricidal conflict.

Activists of Defend Kurdistan peace initiative who arrived in Frankfurt airport on their return from Iraqi Kurdistan today, 23rd June 2021, have been detained by German police, according to ANF.

On their Twitter account, the Defend Kurdistan Initiative shared the recent information about the detentions by the German authorities.

“We came as nine people [to Frankfurt]. Six international friends were detained by a very large team of police. Since we hold a passport from Switzerland, they did not detain us,” said Saadet Kuran speaking on behalf of the Defend Kurdistan initiative.

“Actually, the police in there gave us an image that reminded us of Turkey. They took our friends very dramatically. They had already confiscated their baggage. We are really so sorry. We do not understand what the Germany police are doing,” she added.

Whilst the whereabouts of the detainees are still remain unknown, the names of those detained have not been yet verified.
