SDF: One of ISIS’s most dangerous commanders captured
The SDF have announced the arrest of an ISIS commander implicated in hundreds of attacks, particularly during the battle of Kobani in 2014
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have announced that they have captured an ISIS commander implicated in the 2014 attack on the Kurdish town of Kobani in northeast Syria.
Farhad Shami, the head of SDF Media Center, said on his Twitter account: “our forces announce the arresting of one of the most dangerous Daesh’s emir who had participated in the 2014 attack against Kobane & committed many massacres against our people in NE Syria.”
The SDF Media Center also gave detailed information on its website and announced that Mohammed Abid al-Awad, code-name Rasheed, who was responsible for various ISIS operations including a plan to break into a prison in Al-Hasakah, was captured as a result of an operation by SDF Special Task Units on 25 December.
It has been noted that Mohammed Abid al-Awad is the primary person responsible for planning an attack on Xiwêran Prison in Al-Hasakah, where ISIS prisoners are held. He was also involved in the preparations for 14 suicide bombings and two car bombings, the SDF added.
The confessions of the ISIS commander will be published soon.
