Prison resistance against Öcalan's isolation on day 40

The hunger strike launched by prisoners to lift the aggravated isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and his freedom has been continuing for 40 days.

The hunger strike launched by prisoners to lift the aggravated isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and his freedom has been continuing for 40 days.

The indefinite and alternating hunger strike initiated in prisons on November 27 demanding an end to the aggravated isolation and freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, continues on day 40.

The prisoners stated that they will continue their action until the isolation is lifted. 8 groups have joined the alternating hunger strike since it began.

Meanwhile, pressure has increased in prisons since the hunger strikes began.

Even though prison administrations try to silence those on hunger strike through ward raids, disciplinary penalties and communication bans, the prisoners' determination continues.

The resistance against isolation is not limited to prisons. The resistance has been continuing since December 18 in the Maxmur Camp in Southern Kurdistan, Northern Iraq. There has been a solidarity hunger strike for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan at the Maxmur Association of Martyrs’ Families for 19 days.

Activist in Lavrio Camp in Greece have also started an indefinite and alternating hunger strike on Monday. The Revolutionary Youth Movement (TCŞ- Tevgera Ciwanen Şoreşger), the Kurdish Women's Movement in Europe (Tevgera Jinen Kurdistan Europe) and the Navenda Çanda Kurdistan (Kurdish Cultural Center) lead the action in groups of 8 persons.

Prisoners of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party (MLKP) will start their 5-day hunger strike as of January 7 in support of the hunger strike launched by PKK and PAJK prisoners against the Imrali isolation on November 27. MLKP prisoners said, "The isolation imposed upon Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan must be removed."
