Nezîra Gewriye: ‘It is the most natural right of the Autonomous Administration to have political recognition’

An official from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) says the key to the solution of the Syrian crisis is not with the parties meeting in Sochi, Astana or Geneva, but with the Autonomous Administration model.

Co-chair of the executive council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in the Jazira region, Nezira Gewriye talked to ANHA regarding the recognition of AANES and political solutions in Syria.

Gewriye believes that starting with Turkey, all powers currently present in Syria, try to actively prevent a peaceful solution in Syria. It is only the AANES, which sincerely and practically suggests and makes attempts for a solution, she said.

“The Autonomous Administration, which has proven itself in all areas, has provided a peaceful and secure environment in Syria. As a result of a great struggle, a democratic, a pluralist co-existence has been put into practice.”

Regardless of the enormous practical achievements and the representative power of the AANES, Gewriye noted, AANES is not politically recognised. “It is a legitimate demand to ask for political recognition of the Autonomous Administration,” she said.

“The Autonomous Administration is a legitimate administration, which represents more than 5 million people in Syria. It is the most natural right of the Autonomous Administration to be politically recognised.”

She drew attention to the ‘social contract’ proposed by the AANES. “A social contract between various communities has been achieved not only politically, but also culturally and socially,” she said.

“The representatives of the AANES and Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) have been on the ground, listening to people’s needs and suggestions. The social contract in AANES has been restructured based on the demands of people. With such an achievement, the Autonomous Administration is the only project that can democratise the whole of Syria and the Middle East.”
