The newly emerged video footage that has reportedly have been filmed in August by Kurdish fighters and recently released by Medya Haber TV show the mountainous tunnels used the Kurdish fighters filled with some kind of green coloured gas.

The video footage shows how the visibility in the tunnels decreased as low as half-a-meter due to the dense green coloured gas. Kurdish fighters have been seen using gas masks and lights to be able to move in the tunnels.

It is unknown which type of gas or chemicals cause the green smoke in the video.

There have been repeated claims that Turkey deploys chemical gas in Iraqi Kurdistan: In the last month alone, 548 people living in the vicinity of Kanimasi were taken to hospitals in Duhuk and in other towns in the region due to health problems and symptoms that are suspected to have been caused by chemical gas, according to Mesapotamia News Agency.

All individuals, who were admitted to hospital have been exhibiting symptoms associated with some sort of chemical gas, including burning in the eye, blurry vision, temporary blindness, acute headache, nosebleeds, shortness of breathe and skin rashes.

Workers of the crisis desks formed by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) reportedly transferred those who came to hospitals with such symptoms to be treated in the field hospital facilities located in the military base of the Turkish army in Bamernê.

There were also several previous reports focusing on the claims of Turkey’s use of chemical weapons in their ongoing cross-border operations in northern Iraq.

On 1 October the Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) published an update on the impact of Turkey’s military operation ‘Claw-Lightning’ in Iraqi Kurdistan, with a significant note referring to reports suggesting that chemical weapons or white phosphorus were used by Turkey in an attack targeting farmland on 4 September.

Referring to some of the published footages and images taken in Iraqi Kurdistan and published to support the allegations that Turkey uses chemical gases in the region, Dr. Gisela Penteker of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War told Medya News: “We are not specialists at chemical weapons, looking at those pictures, of course, there is no proof. But there are many, many signs that make us think that there are chemical weapons used, and of course we join the Kurdish people in asking the international bodies to prove that.”

If one member of the NATO uses chemical weapons, Dr. Penteker noted, “We cannot be quiet about this. What we can do is always ask again, and again, please let the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons people go there and check it and prove it, or prove that it is not true.”
