Murat Karayılan: ‘Raqqa would have never fallen if it was not for the Rojava revolution’

Karayılan saluted the ninth anniversary of the Rojava revolution, sharing his view that this was not only the revolution of the Kurdish people, but of all peoples in North East Syria.

Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Executive Committee member, Murat Karayılan shared his views of the Rojava revolution with the ANF.

Karayılan saluted and congratulated all peoples of Syria and of the Middle East on the anniversary of the ninth year of the revolution. He underlined that the Rojava revolution does not only represent the Kurdish people. “The Rojava revolution is not only the revolution of the Kurdish people, but also of the Arab people, but also of the Assyrian people, but also of all the peoples living in Syria.”

He underlined the founding theoretical principles that make the Rojava revolution what it is today, saying that by the very paradigm it is built on, the Rojava revolution is a women’s revolution. “The Rojava revolution, which has maintained its existence on a democratic and ecological paradigm is based on women’s freedom, is also the women’s freedom revolution.”

Karayılan stated that the model built in North East Syria after the Rojava revolution is an example of a democratic model for Syria and for the world. He argued that the defeat of ISIS and the fall of Raqqa was only possible thanks to the Rojava revolution.

By its contribution of the defeat of ISIS, Karayılan concluded, “The Rojava revolution is a gift to humanity. In a sense, the Rojava revolution is the revolution of humanity. It created universal values for all of humanity.”

“But this system faces great dangers today,” he added.

He appealed to defenders of democracy and freedom all around the world to be in solidarity with the peoples of Rojava and North East Syria in the face of the ongoing dangers and threats of invasion. “All forces on the side of democracy and freedom should defend Rojava and should be in solidarity with the people of Rojava.” he concluded.
