Marta Rosique: ‘I will take the decision of the Catalan parliament to the Spanish parliament’
A member of the the Congress of Deputies of Spain says she will take the decision of the Catalan parliament - recognising AANES - to the Spanish parliament. She stated Rojava is giving hope to the world as a real alternative to capitalism.
On 20 October, the parliament of Catalonia announced that it officially recognised the existence of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) after a resolution that called for the official “recognition” of the status of AANES was approved by a majority vote in the parliament. With the decision, Catalonia’s parliament became the first parliament to recognise AANES.
Thanking the Catalonian parliament after the decision, AANES officials said that “Catalonia’s decision gives us hope that we will continue to fight for the values we believe in.”
As the decision of the Catalonia parliament was welcomed by various politicians throughout the world, Marta Rosique from the Republican Left of Catalonia and also a member of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, spoke to Jin News about it.
“There was a consensus between the two regions on the need for an alliance,” Marta said, citing an alliance in Bosnia as an example.
“We shared the need to encourage something similar. There was also a consensus that the recognition of AANES should be moved to other parliaments, starting with the Spanish parliament and continuing with the European parliaments.”
Marta Rosique said that they have, since 2012, been closely following the process in north-eastern Syria.
“We are very concerned about the effects of the war, ongoing in the region, and this recognition could be a step towards cooperation between the two administrations.”
Rosique stressed that the situation in north-eastern Syria is very different from Spain, but that both sides are fighting for their rights and recognition as a nation.
“This is why many Catalan groups have been fighting in Rojava from the very beginning. Examples such as Rojava show us that there are real alternatives to capitalism, which gives us ideas and hope,” she stated.
“As a member of the Spanish parliament, I will take the decision taken in the Catalan parliament to the Spanish parliament,” Marta said, adding that the parties that make up the Spanish government voted in favour of the resolution in Catalonia, so she expects them to vote in the same way.
