Speaking to the South Kurdistan-based RojNews agency, Iraqi Parliament Human Rights Commission member Qûsaî Ebaas said, “Turks have used internationally banned weapons in the North of Iraq citing its own national security. We have repeatedly asked for relevant authorities to open an international investigation into the matter but nothing has been done, unfortunately.”

Ebaas called the use of banned weapons a “dangerous” action and pointed to the silence of both the Baghdad and Erbil governments in the face of the Turkish state’s acts and violations.

Emphasising the need for more information on Turkey’s crimes in the Kurdistan Region to be conveyed to the public, Ebaas condemned the silence of the Baghdad and Erbil administrations on the “disastrous actions” of the Turkish state.

Iraqi lawyer Hesen Selman also spoke to RojNews and said, “According to international reports and the world media, the Turkish state started using chemical weapons as of May. The Iraqi government is also aware of this case.”

Selman called on human rights organisations and relevant authorities in Iraq to conduct on-site examination.
