Iraq: Turkey reportedly hits a Christian village, at least one villager injured

Reports say a village inhabited by Christians in northern Iraq was bombed, resulting in damage of a church and leaving a young civilian wounded.

Turkey’s air-and-ground campaign in northern Iraq continues since April 23rd, mainly throughout Zap, Avashin and Metina regions.

Turkish armed forces allegedly targeting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) zones, but new footage and claims based on local sources raise serious concerns that residential areas near the operation zones have also been hit by Turkish military forces.

On May 25, Miska village located in the Kanimasiye district in Metina region was reportedly shelled by Turkish army, according to ANF.

The footage recorded in Miska, known as a Christian-village, shows material damage to the village’s church.

20-year-old Bawer Ahmed from Deşişe village was also reportedly injured due to a mortar falling on his village as he was on his way to his farm.

Since April 23rd, a total of 14 villages in the region were reportedly evacuated due to the ongoing Turkish campaign.
