Iranian anti hijab activist attacked in her apartment in Istanbul

Nasibe Shamsaei a women’s rights activist from Iran, was attacked in her apartment in Istanbul.

Iranian anti-hijab and women’s rights activist Shamsaei fled Iran into exile after being given a 12-year prison sentence for having organised the ‘White Wednesday’ campaign.

In November 2020 she was arrested by Turkish authorities at the airport while trying to reach the European Union to seek asylum.

Currently living in Istanbul, Shamsaei was attacked at her apartment in Kadıköy.

“My client, Iranian activist Nasibe Shamsaei was attacked at her apartment in Kadıköy by four unidentified people. After we were informed us about the incidents, we were not able to hear from her for a while,” said Kurtuluş Baştimar, Shamsaei’s lawyer, in a Twitter post on Thursday.

Baştimar then said on Friday that they were finally able to reach their client later. She told them:

“My clients suspects that the perpetrators who attacked her might be Iranian informants,” said Baştimar on his Twitter.

Baştimar shared the information that they have applied to the UN for the deportation process of Shamsaei to be cancelled and for her to be able to travel to a third country other than Turkey and Iran.

The UN is expected to reply to the application by May, he said.
