HDP co-mayor sentenced to nine years in prison
The co-mayor of Kocaköy, Rojda Nazlıer, who was deposed by the Turkish Interior Ministry, has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Rojda Nazlıer, the co-mayor of the Kocaköy district in the Amed (Diyarbakır), who was deposed by the Ministry of Interior, was sentenced to nine years in prison by the 11th Diyarbakır Hevay Penal Court for "membership in a terrorist organization".
The Kurdish politician is accused of PKK membership. The verdict against her is based on the testimony of key witnesses. Among other things, NAzlıer is accused of attending a Newroz celebration, paying a condolence visit to the relatives of political prisoner Zülküf Gezen, who took his own life in March of this year in protest against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, and attending HDP press conferences. Because Nazlıer is a person inclined to commit crimes," she was denied a sentence reduction on the grounds that she is “a person inclined to commit crimes”.
