Iranian-Canadian social activist and author Hamed Esmaeilion announced that demonstrations will take place in more than 100 cities around the world on the anniversary of the 2019 Iranian protests, also known as ‘Bloody November’, during which security forces killed 1,500 people.

The demonstrations, organized by the Association of Families of Flight PS752* and 1500tasvir victim families associations, take place after a three-day general strike.

While the nationwide protests sparked over the death of 22-year-old Jîna Mahsa Amini, in the custody of Iranian morality police are continuing for over 60 days with the slogan ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’, Iranians went on a three-day strike on Tuesday, to mark the anniversary of the 2019 protests.

During the three-day strike called by young activists in Iran, classes were stopped at universities and shopkeepers did not open their shops.

Esmaeilion called for people to participate in the rally to be held on Saturday, 19 November, via Twitter.

“We will be on the streets to prevent the execution of young people, to speak of courage, to disgrace the murderer,” he said.

Iran began prosecuting participants in nationwide protests last week, and Iranian courts sentenced five protesters to death.

*On 8 January 2020, Flight PS752 was tragically shot down with two missiles only three minutes after takeoff from Tehran’s IKA airport. After three days of denial and under mounting international pressure, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) finally admitted that the Boeing 737-800 was brought down by its missiles. A total of 176 passengers and the crew of the flight died.
