German-Swiss author Lüscher will be in Diyarbakır, Mardin
The author of the book Barbarian Spring, novelist John Lüscher will be in Turkey's Kurdish provinces Diyarbakır and Mardin for a discussion on his book.
Novelist John Lüscher will meet with readers in Diyarbakır (Amed) and in Mardin (Merdin) for a discussion on his book Barbarian Spring on 19-20th of March. The events will be hosted by Wêjegeh Amed and Lîs Publications.
Before the discussion, the novelist will be reading from his book in its original language and then the same passages will be read out from the Turkish translation. Then the literary perspective of the novelist will be discussed with its philosophical and political aspects and a special focus on the meaning of satire in periods of crisis.
Barbarian Spring is the first novel by the German-Swiss writer. The novel centers around the story of Preising, a leading Swiss industrialist, on a business trip to Tunisia. He is invited to spend the week with the daughter of a local gangster and he accompanies her to a wedding at a desert luxury resort. While the wedding party in full swing and the bride riding up the aisle on a camel, no one is aware that the global financial system stands on the brink of collapse.
“The timely and unusual novel centers on a culture clash between high finance and the value system of the Maghreb. Provocative and entertaining, Barbarian Spring is a refreshingly original and all-too-believable satire for our times.”
The novel, published in Munich in 2013 was awarded the Franz Hessel Prize in the same year and the Hans Fallade Prize in 2016.
