Fighters of the Women’s United Revolutionary Movement appeal from Iraqi Kurdistan

Female fighters in northern Iraq call on people to turn their attention to the 'mountains' in Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where severe clashes take place between Kurdish fighters and Turkish armed forces

Women’s United Revolutionary Movement (KBDH) fighters shared a video message from the Medya Defence Zones of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has been targeted by Turkish armed forces since 23rd April by an operation, dubbed Operations Claw-Lightning and Thunderbolt.

İmtera Fera Yeşilgöz, a fighter of the Revolutionary Communard Party United Freedom Forces, known as DKP BÖG, and Tijda Tirej, a KBDH fighter together shared a video message, which was published on the Twitter account of the HBDH.

`People and youth of Kurdistan and the women should turn their attention to the mountains of Kurdistan, should unite against fascism and stop the invasion. We should not forget what leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] said: “Once the people and the guerilla stands in unity, no force can stand against them,” said Tirej.

“The AKP [Justice and Development Party] and MHP [Nationalist Movement Party] fascism carries on the exploitation of the working class and the oppressed in the country thoughout Kurdistan as they continue their invasion and attacks on the lands which Kurdish people have liberated with their own blood,” said Yeşilgöz.

Yelişgöz added, “The guerilla are the freedom forces. The freedom forces are nowhere and everywhere at the same time. As the guerilla of the Peoples’ and Women’s United Revolutionary Movement we declare once again that we will continue our united revolutionary struggle on all fronts with our comrades from the HPG [People’s Defence Forces] and YJA star [Free Women’s Unit] against AKP-MHP fascism.”

KBDH was founded in 2017 as an umbrella organisation of several women’s parties which define themselves as women’s forces “against imperialist-capitalist reactionary forces, patriarchy and fascism”.

KBDH was founded as part of the HBDH, a coalition founded in 2016. HBDH described their political goals in their declaration of establishment as “opposition to imperialism, fascism, capitalist exploitation and genocidal system in Kurdistan.”
