Asayish and SDF arrest ISIS leader in Syria’s Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor

On Sunday, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested a leader and a cell of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor and Hasakah, northeastern Syria during two separate security operations supported by the air cover of the Global Coalition.

A military source told North Press that SDF anti-terror units arrested a ISIS leader in the Hasakah region.

ISIS member was responsible for gathering information and planning for targeting operations of SDF and the security forces, and organizing the work of the ISIS cells in Hasakah region.

The SDF, supported by air cover of the Global Coalition, launched a security operation, in the southern part of the city of Hasakah, as they seized weapons and documents were with ISIS agent’s possession, the source added.

Another military source told North Press that Asayish special units with global Coalition’s air support had arrested four ISIS members in the Shuhail area in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The source added that the security operation came after a series of assassinations in the region, which affected civilians, tribal leaders, and members of SDF and security forces.

From time to time, SDF launch extensive security campaigns to pursue ISIS cells in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently been witnessing growing presence of ISIS despite the security tightening that the SDF imposed.
