AANES declares state of emergency due to Turkey’s threats
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria declared a state of emergency on Wednesday due to Turkey’s continued threats of a new imminent military operation.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) declared a state of emergency due to Turkey’s continued threats, Mezopotamya Agency reported.
The declaration was issued following a session of the AANES General Council on Wednesday to confront any possible attack by Turkey on the region.
Turkey uses heavy weapons and drones in Syrian territory, targeting civilians, hospitals, water and power stations and civilian institutions, AANES said in the statement, and has declared its wishes to invade other parts of Syria as well.
Among Ankara’s goals is to change the region’s demographic makeup, displacing locals, it continued. Such an intervention would trigger a security crisis and a new wave of migration, according to AANES.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced plans to carry out another major military cross-border incursion into northern Syria last month.
