Kirkan’s latest exhibition ”In Deep Waters” will be held in London. The exhibition can be visited until 16 November at 13 Stoke Newington Road, London N16 8BH.

Kirkan has exhibited his series of blue-tinted, abstract layered collages in many countries. The Kurdish artist has also twice taken part in the Jaala Art Tokyo Biennale at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art and the International Montreal Art Festival.

Regarding his latest exhibition in London, artist Kirkan told Özgür Politika, “The way I was brought up exposed me to a great mix of cultures, religions, languages ​​and variety.”

Quoting from the German philosopher Nietzsche ”One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star,” Kirkan said:

”The quote seems especially appropriate to me, because I was constantly in a dilemma and I experienced a lot of chaos in my childhood. I decided to take advantage of the positive aspects of having been brought up as a product of cultural differences from the Middle East, Scandinavia and Europe, through creativity. It leads me to the dilemma of my identity, like worlds within worlds. Turbulent, unresolved, and overflowing. From a distance, it looks complete, but on closer examination, several layers of complex depths and surfaces are revealed.”

The artist was born in Konya in 1972 and grew up in Denmark. After living for many years in London, he moved to Lisbon in 2015.
