New allegations of Turkey’s use of poisonous gas in KRI
Allegations by the PKK's armed force HPG that the Turkish military used chemical weapons in its latest incursion into Iraqi Kurdistan have triggered protests in Europe, Canada and Iraq.
Groups staged protests in several cities in Europe, Canada and Iraq on Sunday over recent allegations of chemical weapons use in Turkey’s latest incursions into the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).
The Press Communications Centre of the People’s Defence Forces (HPG), the armed wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), released a statement claiming that ‘poisonous gas’ was used by the Turkish military in Kurazhar (Kurêjaro), Avashin and Zap against Kurdish fighters during the military operations launched on the 17 April, reported Fırat News Agency (ANF).
A demonstration was held by groups outside the Representative Office of the European Commission in Marseilles, France.
In Switzerland there were protests in Bern, Basel, Zurich and Luzern in the late evening hours.
In Bern, groups gathered near the main train station and marched to the Swiss parliament building, chanting, ‘Terrorist Erdoğan’ and ‘Bijî berxwedana gerîla!’ (‘Long live guerilla resistance!’).
In Toronto, Canada, groups marched to the Municipality of Toronto, chanting: ‘Fascist Erdoğan’, ‘Freedom for Kurdistan’, ‘Turkey get out of Kurdistan’, ‘Our resistance will prevail’.
In Sulaymaniyah, KRI, women led a march in protest against Turkey’s attacks and against the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)’s collaboration with Turkey.
