Mukhtar Mihemed Xibaşi: ‘The struggle of SDF is like Kurdish-Arab unity forged during the era of Saladin’
Director of the Arab Centre for Political and Strategic Research says the SDF's fight against ISIS is similar to the unity achieved by Arab and Kurdish peoples during the leadership of Al-Nasir Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub or 'Saladin'
Speaking at an online panel meeting on the future of Kurdish-Arab relations and the role of civil society in Kurdish-Arab relations, Dr. Mukhtar Mihemed Xibaşi, the deputy head of the Arab Centre for Political and Strategic Research, pointed to the mission of unity of Arabs and Kurds to ensure stability in the region, ANHA reported.
“The current situation of the Kurdish and Arab peoples requires a search for a solution. The national security of the Arab people cannot be strengthened unless the Kurdish question is solved,” he said.
He explained some historical bonds between the struggles of the Kurdish and Arab peoples. “The PKK [Kurdistan Workers’ Party] members trained for a while with the Palestinians.”
The battle against the ISIS led by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is of key importance to build Kurdish-Arab unity, according to Xibaşi.
“The SDF’s struggle against ISIS is a form of Kurdish-Arab unity forged during the era of Saladin in Damascus and Egypt. For this struggle to be fully successful, Kurdish-Arab unity needs to be achieved.”
