Chile’s president-elect Boric: There is ‘genocide’ against the Kurds in Turkey
During an interview, in reply to the question: "You said Israel was a murderous and genocidal state ... Do you say it for the Kurds in Turkey?," Chile's elected president Gabriel Boric answered, "Yes."
Gabriel Boric, the elected president in a historic victory in Chile, stated in an interview that Kurds in Turkey are being subjected to a murderous and genocidal state. Boric answered “yes” to the question: “You say Israel is a murderous and genocidal state. Does the same hold for Turkey against the Kurds?,” during a TV broadcast.
The interview with Boric was as follows:
Broadcaster: You said Israel was a murderous and genocidal state. Do you stand by your word?
Boris: Yes.
Broadcaster: Do you say it for the Kurds in Turkey?
Boris: Yes, the same for all countries like Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, which violate human rights. These countries must meet international norms. It doesn’t matter how powerful these countries are, regardless of their power, we need to defend the rights of these nations.
Leftist candidate Gabriel Boric won Chile’s presidential election on 19 December 2021 and became the country’s youngest ever leader. Boric, a libertarian socialist Chilean politician, won with 55.87% of the vote, securing victory over his right-wing opponent, Jose Antonio Kast, who trailed with 44.13%, according to the Electoral Service of Chile.
Boric studied in the Faculty of Law at the University of Chile, and was the President of the University of Chile Student Federation in 2012. During the 2011–2013 Chilean student protests, he became one of the leading figures. Boric will be sworn in as President on 11 March.
