The Turkish Ministry of Defence announced on Tuesday that four Turkish soldiers were killed and three were injured in clashes with the fighters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), where Turkey has been conducting its latest military operations since 17 April 2022.

The Turkish government media reported that Turkish war planes bombarded the area where the recent clashes took place.

Turkish attacks, are carried out by aerial and ground bombardment, helicopter and drone attacks, with massive troop deployments with a focus on Zap and Avasin regions in Iraqi Kurdistan. The latest operation, dubbed ‘Claw-LOCK’ by the Turkish defence ministry, is not just limited to areas near the border.

There were attacks on Saturday in two locations, both situated at the heart of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and at least some 180 km from the Turkish border.

In one of the attacks, an air strike reportedly conducted by Turkey, five people were killed and one injured near the town of Chamchamal in the governorate of Sulaymaniyah.

In the other, also on Saturday, one person was killed in a Turkish drone missile strike in the Makhmour refugee camp, where 12,000 Kurdish refugees who were forcibly displaced during the 1990s by the Turkish military live.
